Listed below are just some of the questions and concerns that Engineering Department personnel are most frequently asked.  If the Engineering Department is not able to answer your question, personnel will direct you to the proper department.

Where are my property pins along City Right of Way?
Generally, property pins are located 33 feet from the center of the roadway. The Engineering Department is able to locate pins regarding City right-of-way but refrains from locating pins with regards to property line disputes.  If you have questions concerning your property lines, please contact the Engineering Department at (217) 228-4527. 

I need to report a pothole.
Although the Engineering Department is responsible for the administration of the City’s streets, we do not perform routine maintenance on the streets.  If you would like to report a pothole that needs repaired, please notify the Central Services Department at (217) 228-4520.

Fix my sidewalk.
If your sidewalk needs repaired or replaced please contact your Ward Alderman or the Central Services Department at (217) 228-4520.

My street or alley needs resurfacing.
If you questions concerning the condition of a street or alley please contact your Ward Alderman or the Engineering Department at (217) 228-4527.

I want to temporarily place a trash dumpster in front of my house.
With permission, the city of Quincy does allow dumpsters to be temporarily placed on City right-of-way.  Resident can notify their Ward Alderman for permission or contact the Engineering Department at (217) 228-4527.

I want to report a broken street light.
The Engineering Department is responsible for the City’s street lights and, along with Ameren, maintains the street lights that are found on City right-of-way.  If you know of a street light that is not working properly, please contact the Engineering Department at (217) 228-4527 and we will report it to Ameren.  Most repairs are made within 48 hours of the repair request.

I want to report a broken traffic signal.
The Engineering Department maintains the traffic signals for the 58 signalized intersections in the City of Quincy.  Please notify the Engineering Department at (217) 228-4527 with any questions regarding traffic signals.

I need an address for my new house or development.
The Engineering Department assigns addresses for new constructions in the city of Quincy and Tri-Township area which includes Ellington, Melrose and Riverside Townships. Please contact the Engineering Department (217) 228-4527.

There is a dead or dangerous tree on City right- of-way. 
The City is responsible for the removal of dead or dangerous trees located on City right-of-way. Please notify your Ward Alderman or the Central Services Department at (217) 228-4520 with questions concerning trees on right-of-way.

I would like to have an Accessible Parking Space in front of my house.
Accessible Parking Spaces are available to residents who have proper State of Illinois issued credentials.  Please contact the Engineering Department at (217) 228-4527 for further information.

I want to construct a new driveway for my house.
A Driveway Permit is needed for anyone who will be cutting through or removing curbing to widen an existing driveway or putt in a new driveway. Permits may be obtained from the Engineering Department.

I need to do some digging on City Right of Way.
A Street Opening Permit is needed for anyone who will be digging on City right-of-way.  Any contractor doing so must also hold a $5,000 Street Opening Bond or the permit will not be issued.  Please contact the Engineering Department at (217) 228-4527 before digging.

My garbage or recycle was not picked up.
The Central Services Department is responsible for the collection of garbage and recycling with the City’s limits.  Please contact the Central Services Department (217) 228-4520.

Where can I get a City Map?
City maps can be obtained at City Hall.  Please stop by City Hall at 730 Maine Street or call (217) 228-4500.
